Pill: Double Dose

Pill: Double DoseIn a recession, there are those musicians that strive to pretend there’s nothing wrong — painting a rose-colored picture for the listeners that follow them. Then, there are artists like Grind Time rapper, Pill. For him it’s not about glossing over reality, it’s about telling compelling stories from his point of view — enlightening and entertaining folks with every bar he spits.

“I was raised in a depression, so this ain’t s—,” shrugs the rapper, who was raised on the south side of Atlanta. He says he was introduced to artists like Anita Baker and Michael Jackson during his mom’s card parties. “If we didn’t have nothing else in the house, we had a stereo.”

While Pill definitely prescribes reality tales to anyone within listening range, it’s the pictures he paints that have people flocking to him, as evidenced on his latest project, 4180: The Prescription.

“I feel like Picasso sometimes,” Pill, who was initially introduced to Killer Mike through Mike’s cousin, says. “It’s so many different things that I can talk about. It’s not a game. It’s like a sport; I want to have the best stats.”

Initially introduced by Killer’s ‘hood classic, Dat Crack, Pill is ready to give the world a dose of his musicality. He’ll be featured on the upcoming Underground Atlanta Compilation, the concert that was recently featured on MTV 2, and he’s working on building his brand and catalogue with numerous performances.

“I’m Pill, I’m the medicine, the cure for rap cancer,” he says. “I’m just trying to fill up that medicine bottle and get you right for that day.”
