Jazz singer Melissa Morgan’s debut is a study in musical clichés. On “Save Your Love For Me,” her sultry voice evokes images of a darkened nightclub. Morgan’s inspiration comes from chanteuses like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan, but her voice lacks the emotion and power those singers possessed. Perhaps that is why, no matter how hard she tries, her music ultimately stimulates memories of better, long dead artists. –forrest green III
