Andre 3000 Takes Over the Alliance Theater
Rapper Andre 3000’s new play, Class of 3000 Live, which is based on his popular cartoon series opened up Saturday night at the Alliance Theater. His longtime partner-in-rhyme, Big Boi, singer/songwriter Scar and singer Janelle Monae were among the stars that came out to support the talented rapper.
“I knew I couldn’t rap forever,” Andre told the packed audience before the show. “So I always said that when I was done rapping, I would be a teacher.”
That’s how the concept for his cartoon was born. Focusing on a superstar musician, Sonny Bridges, who leaves the stifling limelight to teach music to some inner-city kids in Atlanta, the live adaptation had the little ones in the audience captivated. The play, which was adapted by Rosemary Newcott starred Bernard Jones as the rambunctious Li’l D, Sonny’s biggest fan, and Sinatra Oneywuchi as Sonny. The play will run March 6th-29th.
The adaptation of his popular play isn’t the only venture that Andre is focused on. His clothing line, Benjamin Bixby, has also been receiving rave reviews. He is also slated to appear in the film, New York, I Love You alongside Natalie Portman and Christina Ricci this April.
