Diddy’s Day 26 Teams Up with T.I.’s Charity to Speak Against Domestic Violence
R&B group, Day 26’s newfound celebrity was evident when they walked into the gymnasium at McNair High School in Atlanta. Filled with screaming, teary-eyed adolescent girls, the surprise visit from Will, Mike, Q, Brian and Robert evoked an emotional response, although the guys were there for a much more important reason — to talk about violence between intimate partners.
In conjunction with T.I.’s foundation, It’s Cool To Be Smart and author Curtis Benjamin’s latest book, Saving Our Daughters: From a Man’s Point of View, Day 26 addressed the teens about the importance of self-esteem, empowerment and relationships.
“If it gets to that level you both need to understand that it’s time to move on,” Will said. “At the end of the day nobody should get hurt.”
Benjamin was happy to have Day 26, who is currently promoting their upcoming album, Forever In a Day (due out April 14), join in the important cause. “I think the teens responded to them better, because they are right in line with their age and their peers,” said Benjamin.
The group says that they are friends of both Chris Brown and Rihanna, who have been in the spotlight because of Brown’s alleged assault on Rihanna.
“It makes you look at a situation and say that could have been me,” Mike said. “What happened between Chris and Rihanna — I don’t really know. Those are our friends. But in situations similar to that … it’s just best for you to get out of it.”
Robert added, “I really didn’t look at it [as being] that deep in the young community, but it’s actually happening in the young community.”
