Alonzo Craig, Program Manager, Atlanta Jazz Festival Performing Arts Program Manager, City of Atlanta |
Alonzo Craig loves music. But don’t expect to see him performing or signing any artists to a record label. As the performing arts program manager for the city of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs and program manger for the Atlanta Jazz Festival, Craig is able to bring his love of music full circle, by introducing it to the masses.
Craig has held his position at the Office of Cultural Affairs for nine years, and has been managed the Jazz Festival since 2003.
“The interaction with the people is what I enjoy most about my position,” he says, mentioning that he supervises four programs at the Office of Cultural affairs, including the music program and the art and education program. “Putting on activities that are a benefit to helping promote culture awareness is exciting.”
While Craig admits that the recession has hit the city’s arts initiatives hard, he maintains that the support of the community have helped make events like the Atlanta Jazz Festival a success nevertheless.
“The opportunity to have interaction with people and being able to present some jazz artists that I’ve heard throughout the years is great,” he says. “What’s always fulfilling to me is seeing the excitement that comes when people hear what the lineup for the festival is going to be.” –jh
