Ben Tankard – Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

Ben Tankard - Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

Verity

Gospel musician Ben Tankard’s album is an interesting display of contrasts. The first non-intro cut, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (Live at the Tankard Palace)” is a soulful performance of the Joe Zawinul jazz composition with Tankard at a Rhodes piano and crowd noises in the background. The downfall is that Tankard fails to stretch himself creatively in some places, ending up with superficial smooth jazz instrumentals. Nevertheless, this is a solid outing for smooth jazz listeners with a craving for inspirational themes. –forrest green III
