Boyz n the Hood (1991)
One of the most acclaimed films of the ‘90s, Boyz … reintroduced Regina King as a serious actress following her turn as a child star on the sitcom “227.” The film launched the careers of a new generation of black actors and actresses, including King and co-star Nia Long.

Poetic Justice (1993)
Janet Jackson’s first starring role in a major motion picture was significant, but King again stole the spotlight in what would be her second go-round with John Singleton.

Higher Learning (1995)
The third in King’s string of collaborations with director John Singleton, Higher Learning saw the actress continuing to grow — alongside model Tyra Banks and star Omar Epps.

A Thin Line Between Love and Hate (1996)
The first film in which King was cast as the main character’s love interest, her chemistry with Martin Lawrence was obvious. Lynn Whitfield, as the film’s antagonist, provided ample inspiration and motivation for her younger co-stars.

Enemy of the State (1998)
Another of King’s first roles as leading lady, (this time opposite Will Smith), it also paired her against another refugee from ‘80s sitcom stardom; Lisa Bonet, formerly of “The Cosby Show.”

How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998)
As one of the younger cast members of this hit romance drama, King was able to study at the feet of two of the most accomplished African American actresses of the decade, Angela Bassett and Oscar® winner Whoopi Goldberg.

Ray (2004)
In as much as Jamie Foxx’s Oscar® winning performance was timeless, this seminal biopic of the late soul legend also featured breakthrough performances from King, Kerry Washington, and the always-underrated Aunjanue Ellis.

This Christmas (2007)
This ensemble holiday film featured King as the eldest sister of a close-knit family, and art imitated life, as King was an off-screen mentor to her up-and-coming co-stars, Sharon Leal and Lauren London.
