This past Memorial Day weekend, Good For Da Soul demonstrated why they are one the best entertainment shows in Chicago. While there were a plethora of events in the city to select from, Good For Da Soul’s fusion of spoken word, dance and comedy offered something for everyone. For those of you who missed out, here are five reasons you will want to be at the next Good For Da Soul on July 11. –gavin philip godfrey

The Crowd
With over 200 African American professionals, creative types and others out for a good time, Good For Da Soul attendees represent the diversity and wealth of black culture in the Windy City.

The Venue
Joe’s on Weed Street is already a popular destination for sports fanatics and has always been hailed for it’s ability to draw Chicagoans from all walks of life. The spacious and fully-service bars and dining areas give you the feeling that you’re attending a big event without feeling cramped, crowded or uncomfortable.

The Price
Let’s face it — the recession is putting a dent in everyone’s bank accounts. Luckily, the folks over at Good For Da Soul understand that, and at only $20 per person, patrons are treated to comedy shows from national acts, as well as spoken word and musical performances from the city’s most talented undiscovered artists.

The Entertainment
As mentioned before, one would never leave a Good For Da Soul event without their stomach nearly in stitches. Imagine being able to see comedians Reggie Reg and Ray Lipowski for the price of one. Well, fortunately that was the case at the most recent show, and future events promise a similar caliber of stand-up stars, so you won’t want to miss the next one.

The Good For Da Soul Team
Think about it — the real world is a tough enough place to live, and every now and then you need to escape. Good For Da Soul president, Saterial Harris and his team created the event knowing “That we all need something good for the soul.”
