Paul McCartney Goes Green With Live Nation and Piedmont Park

The legendary Paul McCartney is going green with a special concert August 15 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. As part of Piedmont’s Green Concert series, the environmentally themed show will raise funds for the park’s 53-acre expansion and ongoing maintenance.

“Anytime you can have a park be alive, it’s a good thing,” says Yvette Bowden, president and CEO of Piedmont Park Conservancy. “Piedmont Park is already a pretty lively place, but this event is particularly important because it raises the bar in sustainability in the city and teaches people how to live greener and that’s really what conservancy is about.”

The Conservancy first introduced the Green Concert series in 2007. With Live Nation on board, the series should only continue to get bigger and better over the years.

“All of us should be concerned about staying committed to green causes,” Bowden says, adding that biodiesel fuel will power the event and solar ATMs will be used on-site. “We don’t own Piedmont Park, we don’t own any of this green space, but we’re all about protecting it. If all of us felt that way abut all of the land that we use, we would be a much better place for it. I think Paul McCartney stands [for] that in his regular life, which is why he was willing to be part of this event.” –jh
