If the company you keep is any indication of your status, then the two Stews — Ryan and Doug Stewart — are undoubtedly perched at the pinnacle of their profession. Celebrities galore came out to celebrate with the two Stews, including: actors Boris Kodjoe, Lamman Rucker, Demetria McKinney, Terri Vaughn, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Kenya Moore; producer Roger Bobb of Tyler Perry Studios; radio show host and former NBA sharpshooter Dennis Scott; singer Angie Stone; music producers Devyne Stephens, Bryan-Michael Cox, Mr. ColliPark and John Boy; Turner Sports commentator Craig Sager; NFL Players Ovie Mughelli, Bryan Scott, Champ Bailey and Dorsey Levens; and And 1 Basketball player Dennis “Spyda” Chism.
What started out as an experimental radio show between two sports-addicted brothers blossomed into a nationwide phenomenon with the brothers now syndicated in over 20 major markets.
Ryan Stewart, a former Georgia Tech All-American and Detroit Lions safety, and older brother Doug Stewart, a former running back at Newberry College and sports agent, decided to take their high-decibel sports arguments onto the airwaves. The results were spectacular. Within four years, “The 2 Live Stews” became Atlanta-based 790 the Zone’s highest rated show. They were voted “Air Talent of the Year” by ESPN Radio in 2004, were hired to do a show for ESPN 2 in 2005, and were selected to join ESPN2’s “First Take” (formerly “Cold Pizza”) in 2007.
Branching out, Doug and Ryan Stewart were tapped by TV One to host “Black Men Revealed,” a candid and oft-hilarious probe into the lives of African American men. The two are also longtime participants with Big Brothers Big Sisters. –terry shropshire
