You are scheduled to be profiled on the new TV One docu-series “Life After.” What can viewers expect to see?
I think the special is going to give viewers a glimpse into my life that is seldom seen. You’ll get to see me with my family, with my charity, the work that I do on Skid Row, and the work that I continue to be committed to in Compton [Calif.].
Tell us more about your commitment to the Compton community.
I have a program that I work with called Positive Vibrations in Compton. … We teach young people a trade and introduce them to aviation; they can be engineers, work in the shop or become a pilot. … It’s a program that provides a safe haven, but more importantly, it teaches them the value of hard work.
Why is important for you to invest so much time in that community?
It’s really simple. Kids become what they see. If they see people who are doing things, and who are committed to making their community a better place, then the kids will become those same things. But if all they see is negative influences, then that’s more than likely what’s going to happen to them. So it’s important to me to be that positive figure. … I am committed to these children, and will continue to work hard on their behalf. –dewayne rogers
