World’s #1 Hacker Gregory Evans Gives Security Advice To Hip-Hop And Beyond

alt

Make no mistake — Gregory Evans is the “World’s
No. 1 Hacker.” And while the title may be self-proclaimed, you’d still
be hard pressed to find someone capable of matching Evans’ track record
and skill set. As the CEO of LIGATT Security, Evans has been
responsible for not only lending much needed assistance to law
enforcement’s pursuit of cyber criminals, but he’s also created
innovative properties like SPOOFEM to provide fail-proof virtual
security for end users. As Evans gave rolling out a tour of
his impressive facility, the hacker turned CEO addressed everything
from identity theft to hip-hop’s need for better security.

How long have you been hacking computers?

Evans:
I’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember. I started hacking
systems in middle school changing grades for money, and it just grew
from there. It got to the point where I was making over $600,000 a week
hacking into corporate systems and sharing information with their
competitors. I was eventually turned into the feds by someone that
overheard what I was doing and blackmailed me. From there, I learned
how to make money with my talent legally.

What is the biggest misconception about identity theft?

Evans:
Most people think that your identity can only be stolen for monetary
purposes. So you have a lot of people that won’t check their credit
files because they think there’s no reason for people to steal their
identity since their credit is bad. That is wrong thinking. Only 25% of
identity theft is monetary. The rest of it occurs when people steal
your identity to receive benefits like healthcare.

You’ve
gone on record voicing your displeasure with the way the hip-hop
community protects itself. What is your biggest complaint?

Evans:
I think they spend way too much money on physical security, and not
enough resources on cyber security. They have the security guards, dogs
and alarm systems, but they don’t have a good firewall in place to
protect their wireless networks. That’s how hackers are able to get
onto their computers and steal pictures, videos and new music. They
usually think that someone from their camp leaked their personal
information, [but] it wasn’t anyone from their camp. It was them not
having a good security system in place. That’s why they need to call me.
