the name given to drinks that are traditionally made with heavier-flavored spirits like bourbon and cognac. They are a better reflection of our tastes and a return to the days
of stepping up to the bar for passionate personal and politcal debates. –roz edward
TRUE BLUE (or “Barack Rocks”)
Ingredients:
• 2 ounces Ciroc vodka
• 1 ounce blue curaçao
• Juice from 1/2 lime
• 3 ounces Sprite or 7-Up
• Pear slice for garnish
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Shake and pour into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a slice of pear.
THE OBAMA MARTINI
(or the Barack Ciroc)
Ingredients:
1½ oz. Cîroc Vodka
oz. pineapple juice • 1 oz. cranberry juice • Splash of triple sec
Preparation:
Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a wine glass. This drink will conjure up dreams of reform and change.
Point in fact: President-elect Barack Obama’s favorite cocktail is a
variation of the classic Americano.
AMERICANO
Ingredients:
• 1 oz Campari® bitters
• 1 oz sweet vermouth
• 1 twist lemon peel
• 1 twist orange peel
Preparation:
Pour over ice into an collins glass. Garnish with lemon and orange twists. You may fill with some club soda.
Polls show that we are what we drink — Republicans prefer brown liquors (bourbons and scotches), while Democrats like to stay in the clear with gin and vodka.

Straight Up Republican
Here’s the red in the red, white and blue, and while this drink may be straight up, it’s a little bit complex.
Ingredients:
• 2 ounces reposado tequila
(we used Cabo Wabo)
• 1/4 ounce simple syrup
• 6 fresh pomegranate seeds
and juice
• 1 oz. passion fruit juice
• Mint for garnish
Preparation:
Muddle pomegranate in base of shaker. Add other ingredients; shake with ice and fine strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with mint.
