Chrisette Michele, Wyclef Jean, and Others Headline Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge
Many
of the nation’s biggest business deals are made on the links of a
pristine emerald golf course. That’s just one reason the annual Black
Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge, which takes place this
year at the J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando, Fla., is the
premiere Labor Day holiday gathering for urban sophisticates. More than
1,000 of the top African American businessmen and women from around the
country will descend on the breathtaking grand hotel and resort Sept
3–7 for golf and tennis challenges. Participants will also delight in
the sizzling sounds from musical stars including: Grammy-winning
superstar Wyclef Jean, vivacious vocalist Chrisette Michele, soulful
serenader Joe, songster Chico DeBarge and immerse themselves in the
sounds from turntable titan, DJ Biz Markie.
In
addition to the spectacular golf course, The Black Enterprise/Pepsi
Golf & Tennis Challenge attendees will be able to engage in some
fun tournament-like competition at the Grand Cypress Racquet Club. The
club exudes glamour and sophistication with its eight Har-Tru and four
Deco Turf II private courts that hug the edge of a lake. Guests can go
off on senses-stimulating excursions, immerse in soul-soothing spa
treatments at the Ritz Carlton and network with one another while
luxuriating in opulence.
For the true golf
aficionados who likes to line up the ball on unique links, Orange
County National Golf Center and Lodge is one of the most acclaimed
public courses in the entire country. The OCN was given Golf World’s Readers Choice Award as the No. 1 public course in Florida and No. 8 in the country.
The
majestic turquoise Panther Lake Course is the first to feature 18
signature holes. You don’t know whether to golf or bust out the picnic
blanket with its views of the pine forests, scenic wetlands,
picturesque lakes and rolling hills.
Panther’s
Cousin, the Crook Cat Course, is a formidable relative who boasts large
sloping greens, 50-foot elevation changes and steep grass. It has been
given 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest as the best place to play and was named best public course by Orlando magazine.
