Playaz Circle: Flying High

Standing
outside a photo studio in their hometown of Atlanta, Playaz Circle
looks serious. They laugh and joke with their label mate, Lil Scrappy;
and DTP vice president, Chaka Zulu, but they still seem focused. They
know how quickly things can change. On the brink of releasing their
second album on the label, Flight 360, the anticipated follow-up to the impressive, Supply and Demand, Dolla and Tity Boi are not taking anything for granted. –jh

Supply and Demand didn’t sound like anything that was on the radio at the time.
Dolla:
When me and Tit first started out in the late ‘90s, it was bigger than
us, it was a lot of emcees, Tit got shot, I had to go away for a while,
then when we linked back up, we decided to do the Playaz Circle thing.
We don’t get caught up in the hype of what’s popular at the moment, we
been doing this for years.

How have the things you’ve gone through played out in your music?
Dolla:
Our parents were hustlers, we came from single-parent households, we
were out in the streets, we were seeing drugs being sold, the
shoot-outs, police brutality, but at the same time, College Park is
right by the airport, so there’s also a lot of rich people there. So we
got to see things we wanted to achieve, and that created a hunger in us
to make us want to go out and get it. That’s why we’re so cool; we know
the hunger in each other.

You’ve known Lil Wayne for a while and have made some great music together.
Tit:
Shout-out to Wayne, he’s done more for us in the music than probably
some of the labels. Our relationship is deeper than music. When we get
in the studio and do stuff, it has a good chemistry. A lot of times we
like for him to do the hook. He’s an unofficial member of the Duffle
Bag Boys, he’s like the singer.

Aside from music do you have any other business ventures you’re focused on?

Tit:
We own a studio. I’m working on a club, Dolla about to open up his
barbershop. We’re doing real estate. We’re just trying to use our money
wisely. We got artists too, don’t want to toot my own horn, but beep
beep [laughing]. We’re just trying to be leaders in this game.
