Pretty
Ricky is grinding in the studio. No. Literally. They are grinding in
the studio while listening to songs from their upcoming self-titled
album, due out Nov. 17.
As Diamond “Baby Blue”
Smith runs through the songs, singing along loudly with each track,
Spectacular Smith alternately plays with his laptop and dances along.
Let’s just say the video that Spectacular released a couple of months
ago of him challenging other stars to a “grind off” while wearing red
speedos wasn’t an act. Dude really goes in.
“That video was for the fans, and you gotta satisfy your fans,”
Spectacular shrugs, grinning about the video that circulated heavily on
the Internet and drew a slew of spoofs. “People ain’t really selling
albums like that so we gotta keep them happy.”
Baby Blue agrees wholeheartedly.
“That video was the best thing that could’ve ever happened because of the amount of publicity we got,” he says.
Really, Pretty Ricky is used to the attention. First, there was the
raunchiness of their songs, despite the fact that the bulk of their
fans were still in middle and high school when they first emerged in
2005. Then there was the publicized split with lead singer, Pleasure P
(who has since gone solo). Now, Spec, Baby Blue, Lingerie and Slick
Em’, are trying to keep the public’s attention. They U-Stream during
interviews on prettyricky.com (and every Monday, Wednesday and Friday)
and stay on their respective Twitter pages. It’s all part of their
business plan.
“We leveraged to get off of Atlantic and when we left, we made them
give us all the publishing for our old records,” says Baby Blue. He
adds this caveat to fellow artists: “All of the artists trying to get
in the game, leave them major labels alone.”
Business
aside, the guys are focused on bringing their brand of raw sexuality to
fans. Check out what they had to say about what turns them on the most
about a woman:
Baby Blue: “I can’t stand a woman with Boomerang toes, but I do like to nibble on some ears …”
Slick Em’: “I like every part of the woman. The ears, feet, toes, booty hole …”
Lingerie: “My favorite part of the woman is her mind, because once I get into her mind everything else falls into place.”
Spectacular: “If you want to find out you can go [to my] Twitter page, I want to talk to you personally about what I like.”
