Tarrus
Riley, the son of reggae artist Jimmy Riley, has put out a third studio
album and it reeks of contemporary reggae’s worst slip ups. There are
more than enough songs here (18), the problem is there are not enough
great ideas. Two gems include the lilting acoustic ballad “It Will
Come: A Musicians Life Story” and the retro-sounding “Young Heart.”
With its trebly guitars, the latter song sounds just like 1970s reggae
and is a reminder that that halcyon period is truly immortal. –forrest green III
