This
is the rap album hip-hop heads have been waiting for. Joel Ortiz, Joe
Budden, Crooked I and Royce da 5’9″ are all phenomenal emcees who have
taken lyricism to new heights with their collaboration. But while it’s
clear that they challenge one another lyrically, they’ve also managed
to create good conceptual songs, keeping the album from veering off
into scattered 16-bar competitions. Standouts include “Salute”
featuring Pharoahe Monch and the extremely lyrical, “Sound Off.” All in
all, this is like a breath of fresh air, and signals the re-emergence
of great rap music. –jh
