Attika Torrance, founder of Independent Films New York, introduced Independent Films Philadelphia with a screening of The Minds of Men and Romance is Served at the Clef Club on Aug. 12.

Romance Is Served, which won the award for Best Short at the
2009 Belize International Film Festival, portrays young, professional
African Americans in pursuit of their dreams, goals and heart’s desire
— lasting romance.

Romance is Served

The Minds of Men is a clever depiction of how some men view cheating, as one character put it, “You’re not cheating if you don’t get caught!”

The producer of Romance is Served,
Hans Elder, told the audience that he is exploring the possibility of
adapting the film for television to keep the dialogue going about black
love.

The audience engaged in lively and thoughtful
discourse on relationships following the conclusion of the screening.
One member in particular expressed very poignantly that she would have
to think of men from a more human perspective after viewing the films.

Torrance thanked the audience for the open, honest feedback and
requested that they continue to support the good work of Independent
Films Philadelphia. –beatrice joyner and michele fling
