Teairra Mari Marks Triumph Over Tragedy on At That Point Album

Teairra Mari

Breathtaking chanteuse Teairra Mari is finally At That Point in her life — and she’s definitely on point. She’s emerged from her musical bunker packing some serious sonic heat with the help of Flo Rida, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Rico Love. The Detroit diva bears no emotional scars caused by her meteoric rise and spectacular fall from the Roc-a-Fella musical throne — she was told of her unceremonious ouster from the Jay Z-led label on her prom night, no less.

Now with Warner Bros, the Motown maven shares how she got her swag back after being nursed into game shape with the help of her family. “At That Point was inspired just by my life, just going through so much. And finally being at that point of having comfort in my own shoes,” says the vivacious vixen.

Mari’s sophomore joint, set for an Oct. 20 release, also shows that she’s comfortable delving into adult themes. The sexy siren who came to fame with “Make Her Feel Good” and “No Daddy” at age 17 is back and fully loaded with sizzling singles off At that Point.

“I’m 21 years old and I have some baby making music on the album,” she says silkily. “Yes sir, I have to. I’m not ready to make babies yet, but I love babies, so I want my people to make babies so I can kiss and hug them.”

Particularly enticing is the scorching “Automatic.” “Ladies, you know how 50 Cent said he got the magic stick? I just feel like I have that ‘automatic’. So call me Ms. Automatic,” Mari says before describing another favorite, “Emergency.” “It’s about putting yourself in a situation that you know you shouldn’t be in once again. So it’s like ‘uh-oh,’ I did it again. Can someone dial the emergency room ‘cause my heart is in need.”
If her heart is in trouble now, it’s because Mari can scarcely contain her excitement. “My first album [was] my adopted child. But this album is like my birth child,” says Mari, who co-wrote some of the songs. “It’s closer to my heart. It’s more reflective of me also because I had a lot of input.”  –terry shropshire
