on Sirius Radio’s Shade 45 and co-host of “Lip Service,” knows rappers.
From Young Berg, to Soulja Boy and Jay-Z, the pint-sized firecracker
has conducted some of the most memorable interviews of recent times,
mostly because she’s not afraid to say anything. If you’re female and
looking to break into the male-dominated world of hip-hop, follow these
tips from a woman who knows how to hold her own.
Tip 1. Don’t get excited because a rapper hits on you.
“Obviously, a lot of guys are going to try to hit on you, that’s just
the nature of the business. If they’re trying to hit on you, they’re
trying to hit on every single girl that they come into contact with …
So don’t be too flattered about that.”
Tip 2. Draw the line between friendly and flirty.
“It’s cool to be friends with people — like it’s good to have people’s
phone numbers, so that if something is happening you can text them or
give them a call … But whatever you do, don’t take it to that next
level. … It’s a very small industry and word does get around.”
Tip 3. Dress for success.
“Don’t come to work with your hair in a bun and [wearing] sweats.
Always look nice because you never know who you’ll run into that you
have to leave an impression on. … It’s important to have a good sense
of style that sets you apart, so you’re not just forgotten after
somebody meets you.”
Tip 4. Be polite.
“You have to be nice to everybody, regardless of their position because
you never know — they could be the next David Geffen. David Geffen
started in the mailroom. Treat everybody the same.”

“Generally, I think what guys do is they get your number, because if I
interview you on my show we can exchange information and I don’t have a
problem with that. But I think sometimes people are nervous to say
things to me because they don’t know if I’ll blow them up on the air. I
had somebody tell me they were going to call me every single day until
