Chris Brown should hire a new publicity team today. After attempting to
take a step towards rebuilding his tarnished career by appearing on
“Larry King Live,” Brown set himself back even further by challenging
the most powerful woman in media.
During a recent interview, Brown condemned Oprah Winfrey
for not being more understanding of the situation that he went through
with Rihanna. “I commend Oprah on being like, ‘This is a problem,’ but
it was a slap in my face,” Brown said. “I did a lot of stuff for her,
like going to Africa and performing for her school. She could have been
more helpful, like, ‘OK, I’m going to help both of these people out.’”
In
a statement, Oprah’s rep responded by saying, “Oprah is very
appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school but she takes
domestic abuse very seriously. She hopes that he gets the counseling he
needs.”
Brown needs to fire his publicity team and find
a way to follow in the footsteps of Michael Vick. Once troubled by his
incarceration due to dogfighting, Vick emerged from prison contrite and
ready to make amends. Vick handled himself well when James Brown
grilled him on his missteps during his interview on “60 Minutes.” When
the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they would sign Vick, he wore a
business suit to the press conference and answered most of the
questions intelligently. With only one week left before the start of
the NFL season, Vick’s composure has silenced his critics and allowed
him to resume his career without much backlash.
At this
point, Chris Brown’s career is on shaky ground. Going head-to-head with
Oprah only puts him closer to becoming Mr. Irrelevant. It’s time for
him to keep his mouth shut, create music, and be more like Mike. –amir shaw
