Journey to see Barack Obama the first Black President

altMoments before Barack Obama arrived in Washington, D.C.
for the conclusion of the historically significant Whistle-Stop Tour,
hundreds of eager supporters gathered at Union Station to catch a
glimpse of the president-elect and his family. The halls inside of
Union Station were filled with individuals who wore Obama-inspired
paraphernalia, took pictures with family and friends, and discussed
their plans for the inauguration. Rolling out caught up with several of
those who traveled to Washington, D.C. who spoke about their journey
and the importance of a Barack Obama presidency. –amir shaw

Who did you come with?
I came to Washington, DC with my mom and aunt.
Why did you come?
I’m here to be a part of history. Today is also my birthday and I found
that Michelle Obama’s birthday is today too. I want to do tours and
take part in the festivities and hopefully meet the Obamas.
What does it mean to have a black president?
This is a dream come true. Although I grew up in an era where racism
isn’t as pervasive as it was in the past, I never thought I would see a
black president
How will Obama inspire the future?
I [think] that more kids in my generation will believe in themselves more and know that anything is possible.

Who did you come with?
I came here with my son and sister.
Why did you come?
I came so that my son will know that he can do whatever he wants. He
will also be able to know about the struggles of the civil rights
movement that paved the way for Obama to become president.
What does it mean to have a black president?
It means a solid future for my son. He [will] always know what it feels
like to have a black man in the White House.
How will Obama inspire the future?
I have been inspired to join Obama’s organization [and] to serve
America. I decided to do volunteering so that we can make individual
changes.

Why did you come?
I came here to witness history. This is a moment in my life that I will never forget.
What does it mean to have a black president?
It means a lot. I have followed Obama since 2004. I heard his speech at
the DNC and I read both of his books. When he decided to run, I was on
board. I knew from day one that he could be president.
How will Obama inspire the future?
Obama has inspired everyone. He has show[n] us that there are no more excuses.
