After a six month hiatus, ABC’s hit reality series “Dancing with The Stars” returns to the spotlight. The big question surrounding this eighth season was “Who are the black stars going to be?” Luckily, we now have an answer.
The Stars:
Lil’ Kim
The Rundown: Never one to shy away from the spotlight, platinum rapper Lil Kim hopes to use this time on “Stars” as a career resuscitator, similar to the way that Toni Braxton and Master P attempted to maximize the exposure.
The Odds: With plastic surgery bills rivaling that of the government stimulus package, it’s hard to make an educated guess on how well Lil Kim will place. Let’s just take a wait and see approach …as in wait to see what her face looks like when she arrives on set.
David Alan Grier
The Rundown: Known for his tremendous gifts as a physical comedian, “In Living Color” alum and “Chocolate News” host David Alan Grier hopes to transform his famed comedic timing into endless goodwill in the form of votes by the American public.
The Odds: While Grier should hang around into the middle rounds just on likability alone, he’s never been much of a leading man in my opinion. In order for him to become a true dark horse contender, the renowned funnyman will have to grab the bull (er, dance partner) by the horns, and show the world who’s really in charge.
Lawrence Taylor
The Rundown: As a former NFL megastar and first-ballot Hall of Famer, Taylor satisfies the “Stars” athlete quota. What helps Taylor is that athletes typically do well on the show, as evidenced by Emmitt Smith’s win and Warren Sapp’s runner up finish.
The Odds: While smart money would bet against Taylor, my inner rebel can’t help but think about all of his wild nights as a member of the New York Giants. Surely he must have learned a dance move or two during his storied party days in the city that never sleeps.
Regardless of the final outcome, this season of “Dancing with the Stars” is sure to provide nonstop highlights and side-splitting bloopers. Who will reign supreme? Only time will tell. –dewayne rogers
