Washington, DC- As
Barack Obama prepares to make history as the 44th President of the
United States, R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo makes time for charity,
an act that is second nature for the talented artist. Ne-Yo hosted
Bowl-4-Change, a pre-inauguration celebrity bowling challenge to
benefit The Compound Foundation. There wasn’t a better place to host
this event in the midst of history than at the country’s foremost HBCU,
Howard University–a hub of black history and culture. Ne-Yo shares the
impact of Obama’s presidency on his life and why Bowl-4-Change was an
important effort.
What inspired you to host a bowling tournament during inauguration week?
“The Compound Foundation is a passion of mine. I’m a pretty good bowler
and I have some celebrity friends that are pretty good bowlers too. So
why not put all the bowling talent together for a worthy cause? I mean
we made history this year. We have our first black President … and
there’s so much positive energy.”
What does it mean to you to have the first black President?
“I’m just happy that we made history within my lifetime. It’s a
wonderful thing. It showed me that there is a little bit of
open-mindedness left in the world.”
How will an Obama presidency inspire future generations?
“It says, ‘don’t ever count anything out.’ It says, ‘nothing is impossible.’ If nothing else, it will teach them that.”
