Keeping Warm

picture of warmthDays (and nights) disappear and meld into one another when love evaporates from one’s heart, leaving room for more mundane connotations and less spiritual musings. Love is like an exquisitely patterned quilt that tells the lover’s story of adoration and anticipation. The patches of cloth stitched together with carefully selected threads mark special moments and are tangible expressions of those moments like taking vows planning futures, building families and expanding our capacity to love all the more.

When the flames of love flicker and dwindle, especially during the usually bitter and brutal cold of February, lovers can warm themselves in the comfort of that celebrated life quilt and toast to the excitement and longevity of the most mysterious and sought after of all emotions. Remember your lover’s face and touch and remember when you were humble and nervous in each other’s company. Remember the journey from eager flirtations to unbridled longing. Relish the warmth of knowing that those more fleeting and illusive feelings and sentiments have been replaced with trust and deep caring. Revel in each other’s accomplishments and don’t lose yourselves in detail or disappointment.
Don’t damage your quilt with the stains of suspicion and supposition, or tear them with sharp words and stinging accusations. Continue to add finer fabrics to represent emotional maturity and growth in your relationship. Remember whom you share your blanket with and embrace them.

Peace.
