Larry HudsonCEO, OldiesAndMore.Com

Longtime radio personality and beloved son of Detroit, Larry Hudson recently launched the internet radio station Oldies AndMore.Com, just prior to the 50th anniversay of Motown Records. The classic R&B station compiles music spanning five decades. And while most  radio stations offer 500– 600 oldies in rotation, OldiesAndMore.com boasts a playlist of approximately 5,000 songs. Hudson, the station’s founder and CEO, admits there have been some difficulties in managing such a large catalog of songs.

How has the sheer volume of music been a problem?
The rotation had to be scaled down to increase the frequency  between songs, otherwise it could conceivably take a few months for a listener to hear their favorite song again.

Why did you decide to establish the station?

OldiesAndMore.Com was established to provide its listeners with the ultimate entertainment experience and the widest variety [of music] from five decades of musical memories.

How have you marked the success of this venture?

I just feel honored and lucky to make a career doing something I really love. The plus was doing it in my hometown. The legends of Detroit include Casey Kasem, Dick Puritan, J.P. McCarthy, Ernie Durham, Martha Jean Steinberg, Donnie Simpson, Doug Banks, Butterball Jr. and others. These are some of the real legends of Detroit radio

What’s your recommendation for making it big?

What is making it?  A successful career, happy family, lots of money? Making it ‘career wise’ and anything else is doing whatever makes you happy. You might have to do something else before you can focus 100 percent on your main goal. I’ve been blessed to work with and for some super talented people and now that my traditional radio career has ended, I can pursue the dream of having my own station. When  listeners tune in to find memories worth savoring, their smile will be my reward.  And, of course, as with any business the blessings of profit and success [are] hoped for.

Your advice to potential entrepreneurs?

Be steadfast, there will be obstacles in your way, human and non-human. Believe in yourself, claim it and go for it.  I’m still trying to ‘make it.’ Life comes in many stages and this is only the next stage in my life.
