Quarterman knows music and his impressive track record suggests as
much. With over 20 years of entertainment experience already under his
belt, Quarterman has developed an intimate knowledge of the inner
workings of the music industry. As the urban marketing manager for Sony
Music, Quarterman has a host of responsibilities, which begin with
getting the product to the people.
“When there is a new project
that comes out – whether it’s BeyoncÈ or Anthony Hamilton – it is my
responsibility to implement a marketing plan for it,” Quarterman
explains. “I also deal with advertising on a regional and local level.
Another important aspect of my job, is taking the projects to our indie
retailers so they can know about the project, and see it. At the end of
the day, my job is fulfilled when albums are sold, and our money is
recouped.”
The many professional triumphs of Quarterman are tangible, and a quick
look at the billboard charts proves the effectiveness of his work. But
the Savannah, Ga., native also believes that his success can be
attributed to an unseen quality. “To make it in this industry, you have
got to really live it,” he shares. “For starters, there is just a lot
of competitiveness out here. There are a lot of people out here that
want to be a part of the entertainment business, and will do any and
everything to make a name for themselves in the business – including
pulling someone else down. So you have to stay committed to your
profession day and night. In the end, the hard work certainly pays
