Outrage in Dallas:Domestic Violence on the Rise

alt

“Either they don’t know, don’t show, or don’t care about what’s going on in the ‘hood.”

When rapper-actor Ice Cube uttered those words in John Singleton’s 1991 breakout hit Boyz N the Hood, few knew their relevance would still ring true 18 years later. In the city of Dallas, violence — particularly domestic violence — continues to increase in the African American community. People are dying, and the community is fed up. As tension mounts, the Women Called Moses group has organized an urgent open forum on domestic violence Saturday, June 6 at Maximedia Studios. The 9 a.m. forum is aimed at shedding light on the senseless deaths due to domestic violence, and the police force’s continued practice of looking the other way.
