Narcissism.
Alcohol.
Depression.
And a MONSTROUS Ego.
Add all of those together and you have some semblance of an explanation for the foolishness that Kanye West unleashed at the VMAs last night. The blogosphere, Facebook and Twitter were buzzing with contempt for the mercurial rapper after he stormed the stage during teenage country music star Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. Swift had just won the award for Best Female Video when West grabbed the microphone and proclaimed that fellow Best Female Video nominee Beyonce’s video “one of the greatest of all time!”
“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said.”
Kanye.
Please.
It’s old, bro. You’ve been doing this routine for years now and you finally took it a step too far. There are some of your fans (and Taylor’s) that will only see this as a black or white issue. Those people are idiots. The way you behaved was ugly and embarrassing. She’s a teenager. She’s a country singer — possibly the first to ever win (or even be acknowledged by) the VMAs. And you robbed her of her moment — for no real reason. Beyoncé may not have won Best Female Video, but she won Video of the YEAR! That’s the biggest award of the night. So you looked doubly foolish. Your behavior has gotten more and more erratic over the years and it’s time for you to seek some real help. The weird haircuts, the depressing album, the androgynous girlfriend (who, we all must admit — does have a donk, by they way) — it’s all adding up to the portrait of an artist on the edge of a breakdown. Seek help, Kanye — and stay the hell away from awards shows for a while.
I can’t help but think that you wouldn’t have been nearly as bold if that had been a rapper with a 20-man entourage backstage. Would you have run up on 50 or The Game or Rick Ross like that? Doubtful. You’ve played yourself one time to many, bruh — take a break from the spotlight for a while — or at the very least, think of what your mother would say. But this time, try to think of that before you act like an ass on national television. –todd williams
