Juliette Okotie-Eboh – Service With a Smile

altThe MGM Grand Detroit is one of the city’s most luxurious attractions. Juliette Okotie-Eboh, senior vice president of community affairs for the beautiful hotel and casino, believes that it has something unique to offer in a city that’s not exactly known for recreation.

“We’re offering the people in Detroit and all over the world a resort experience in the city,” explains Okotie-Eboh. “We’ve got a 400-room hotel, 65 suites, five lounges [and] five restaurants. [We have] something for everyone.”

Okotie-Eboh has been with the MGM Grand since 2003, and as evidenced from the warm smile she exhibits toward each of the patrons, hospitality is something that comes naturally.

“I’ve found [hospitality] to be an industry that was on the up-tick worldwide. [And] to be a part of Detroit redefining itself, from a rustbelt, industrial spot to a place to come for recreation and entertainment is [wonderful],” she says, adding that she takes great pride in providing employment for native Detroiters. “[We’re] providing stable jobs. The average worker makes $50K a year. Half of our workforce is from the city of Detroit.”

Okotie-Eboh also has advice for young people hoping to join her team.

“I would say to any young person, be very flexible. There are . jobs here in finance, service, hosts and dealers, food and beverage. There are so many different things that you can get involved in,” she says, adding that versatility is a must. “The idea of getting a job and retiring from the same job is pretty much defunct now. Be [willing] to take a chance.”
