I was in my Brooklyn Brownstone where I lived with no tv. People who worked downtown were crossing the bridge by foot covered in human ash. spent the rest of 9/11 with @realtalibkweli who walked over.

I was at this desk, working at this same computer, chatting with Kevin Powell. We were planning the next “HipHop Speaks” event. Mindlessly, I looked over my left shoulder to glance at my view of NYC’s iconic skyline. Even from Bklyn’s distance, I could see smoke floating alongside one of the twin towers. Moments later, I saw the 2nd plane go into the 2nd tower. “Kevin, Oh My God! Something is wrong! Turn on the news!”

I interned at Merril Lynch summer 2001. Merril Lynch was located in the World Financial Center which is connected to the towers by walkways. Well, this co-worker happened to be in a business meeting on the top floor of one of the towers when 9/11 happened.

He was engaged to be married.

One day, about 3 weeks before my internship was over, he randomly asked to take me to lunch. We went, we bonded, we connected. He [was] really nice and gave great advice. The vibe I got from him was that he was one of those rare people who are genuinely nice with no ulterior motives. I found out that he perished about a week after 9/11 happened. I was really sad because he was a good person who died a horrible death. So every year, I remember him on 9/11 but I sometimes randomly think of him from time to time.
