McDonald’s franchise owner Jayson Rogers discovered that following
his father into the family business was irresistible. After graduating from the College of Wooster
in 2006, the Cleveland native joined his father in the family business. The father-son team has been a staple of the Cleveland
community with their four McDonald’s franchisees for 36 years. –terry shropshire
Why did you decide to
join your father in operating McDonald’s franchises?
It seemed like a great opportunity to work with one of the
best franchises in the world. This was something that I couldn’t pass up. It’s
a great company, we have great vision, great leadership.
What McDonald’s franchisee training program did you take and what is the length of training?
I entered the second-generation training program. I finished
the training program at Hamburger
University. The training
program is ongoing. There are several classes along the way that we go through.
It’s all about operations … and learning financial literacy. So the
training is ongoing.
What qualities does one need to be a successful franchise owner?
I would say great people relations [skills] is one of the most
important aspects of any business. And knowing how to be a leader … that
is essential.
What is it about
McDonald’s that makes them so attractive to urban businessmen and women?
I would say the number one thing that makes it attractive is
the opportunity to have a business — but not be in business by yourself. [You] have
a great network from a corporation that is 100 percent behind you in anything that
you do as an operator.
What has been the most gratifying aspect of your three-year
affiliation with McDonald’s thus far?
The most gratifying thing is being able to help people grow. We
have a lot of managers who have been with us for a long time, and watching them develop
into store managers and assistant managers is very satisfying.
What are your aspirations for the future with McDonald’s?
My aspirations for the future is to continue to operate at a
high level of excellence. I personally want to grow our business and be more
involved in the community and [become] a major player in the [area].
