Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater is holding auditions in Atlanta and New York in search of contestants to appear on the show this fall. The Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night has long been an opportunity for artists to launch their careers, including Fat Joe, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, and Lauryn Hill. You could be next.
“Amateur Night has always been about discovering that next big thing in popular culture,” says the new Amateur Night producer Marion J. Caffey. “There is so much talent out there. There are those who are under the radar just starting out in their careers and then there are those that are just on the verge of exploding on to the scene ,including many working artists. We want them all. The only criteria to succeeding on the Apollo stage is extraordinary talent.”
The road to Amateur Night Finals will begin with the first audition being held on the Georgia State University campus in Atlanta on Saturday, Oct. 10. The New York auditions will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18 at the Apollo Theater, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Talent chosen from these auditions will compete in the 75th Anniversary Season of Amateur Night. The winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize. –yvette caslin
