NFL Players Denounce Rush Limbaugh’s Bid to Buy Team

altHe is arguably the most powerful republican in
America; and
he’s not even a politician. Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has put a
group bid in to buy the NFL’s St. Louis Rams. Known for his extremist views and
racist philosophy, Limbaugh wants to own a team in a league that is over 70%
black.

NFL players Bart Scott and Mathias Kiwanuka came out
publicly and said they would not play for Limbaugh if he became owner of an NFL
franchise. “All I know is from the last comment I heard, he said in Obama’s
America, white kids are getting beat up on the bus while black kids are chanting
‘right on,’” said Mathias Kiwanuka, defensive end for the New York Giants. “I
mean, I don’t want anything to do with a team that he has any part of. He can do
whatever he wants, it is a free country. But if it goes through, I can tell you
where I am not going to play.”

Limbaugh not only has made numerous
racist comments but some directly involving the NFL and black players. “Look,
let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between
the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it,” Limbaugh
previously commented.

Inflammatory comments were even made about Philadelphia
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb by Limbaugh. “Sorry to say this, I don’t think
he’s been that good from the get-go. I think what we’ve had here is a little
social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black
quarterback do well.” McNabb holds the NFL record for the least interceptions in NFL
history.

“It’s an oxymoron that he criticized
Donovan McNabb,” said Bart Scott said, linebacker for the New York Jets. “A lot
of us took it as more of a racial-type thing. I can only imagine how his players
would feel. I know I wouldn’t want to play for him. He’s a jerk. He’s an —.
What he said (about McNabb) was inappropriate and insensitive, totally off-base.
He could offer me whatever he wanted, I wouldn’t play for him. I wouldn’t play
for Rush Limbaugh. My principles are greater and I can’t be bought.”

Limbaugh, who makes a reported $34 million a year just
with his radio syndication is on his second contract worth a combined $597
million. Although Limbaugh is financially able to compete in the bidding for the
St. Louis Rams the NFL would have to approve the sale. It is highly unlikely the
NFL would approve the sale. Limbaugh’s callas remarks will come back to haunt
him and his complete insensitivity to an entire race will continually cause an
uproar in black America. Advice for Limbaugh: There are a few hockey teams for
sale. –lenn durant
