Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield to Face Off on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'

The last time Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield were the feature attractions in a major event, the two boxers turned a heavyweight title bout into a spectacle that the world will never forget. During the third round of their championship rematch in 1997, Tyson bit off a portion of Holyfield’s ear and was disqualified from the match. Holyfield remained a titleholder for several years while Tyson was stripped of his boxing license and never regained prominence in the sport.

Tyson recently appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to discuss the death of his 4-year-old daughter, the troubles that he has faced outside of the boxing ring, and the infamous boxing match against Holyfield.

“I didn’t feel guilt at the time,” Tyson revealed to Oprah. “I didn’t give him a sincere apology. When I see [Holyfield] sometimes, he’s a little leery of me. I can feel the vibe and energy is not good, but I always wanted to shake his hand and apologize. I’ve known him for such a long time, and it was undisciplined. I was in a very competitive mood, and I wanted desperately to beat him for my own self-aggrandizement.”

Both men will appear on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” on Friday, Oct. 16, to talk about the incident and reconcile after 12 years. –a.r.
