During an early segment of “Good Morning America,” on Thursday, Nov. 5, Rihanna affirmed, “I am strong.”
In an interview with Diane Sawyer, the international pop princess let down her guard, opening up about the February 2009 beating she endured at the hands of her equally successful ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown.
“I didn’t cause this,” she continues, “A lot of women have experienced this just not in the public. There goes my little bit of privacy. I fell in love with that person. That’s embarrassing.”
Rihanna, 21, has taken the world by storm since her debut at age 16. She quickly rose to stardom with her 2005 hit single, “Pon de Replay.” She became a global superstar with her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad.
Rihanna admitted that she has a duty and obligation to her fans and the young women who look up to her. She closed with, “Love is so blind.”

Break the Cycle of Domestic Abuse
If you’re in an abusive situation, you may recognize this pattern:
- Your abuser threatens violence.
- Your abuser strikes.
- Your abuser apologizes, promises to change and offers gifts.
- The cycle repeats itself.
Typically the violence becomes more frequent and severe over time.
