ATLANTA (October 28, 2009) – Welcome to ‘Space Invasion’! My name is Akeem Clayton and I am the principal event designer and owner of Be-zaar Events, a full-service event design and event planning firm based in Atlanta. Over the next few weeks my business partner, Akira Eiland-Sharp, and I will be sharing some fun and insightful event design and planning tips with you. We can either help you make great events or make you realize that you can call event design professionals like Be-zaar Events to make the magic happen.
This week, we are going to keep it simple and cover some basics. Event design does not have to be difficult, but like creating anything memorable, getting the basics down is the most important point. This helps us create lasting and realistic impressions on our clients.
Let’s take a look at some trends you should embrace…
Making a big statement with small elements. In this economy we have to learn to be minimalistic. A good designer will know where and how to place design elements and how to effectively utilize funky patterns and color washes. This can be done by using simple floral statements in repetition. Restraint and modest spending seem to be the “new extravagant.”
Designs and tablescapes that feature more metallic finishes. This is an Old World feel with and a New World sensibility. This will give us chance to use some really nice antique pieces from the 1970’s that we thought looked awful last season!
The movement toward timeless elegance, modesty, and tradition. Now that it’s fall, this gives you the opportunity to use beautiful components with more textured surfaces like exotic woods and embossed leathers.
However, at all costs, try to avoid the following…
Overly done tablescapes and interiors. These are uncomfortable and so not hot! Less can be more.
Overdoing the “green” movement. Our firm respects and supports the movement toward eco-friendly entertaining. But, when most people think of a “green” event they automatically assume it has to be rustic, bare, and twiggy. That is a misconception because it can be eco-friendly and still be elegant. Fruit and fresh flowers, for instance, add an immediate impact to any setting.
“Event planners” who should never touch anybody’s event. Someone who put some balloons and streamers together one time for a birthday party is not necessarily a real event planner. It takes time, effort, and an objective eye, so it is best to consult with an event professional.
Stay tuned to ‘Space Invasion’ for a host of other design ideas in the next few weeks. Remember, Be-zaar Events is always here to design your most memorable of events. You can visit us online anytime at www.be-zaar.com.
