Talk show host and former
radio shock diva Wendy Williams was inducted into the National Radio Hall of
Fame on Saturday, Nov. 7, in Chicago. Donning long, silky black tresses,
instead of her usual curly blonde hair, Williams looked elegant in a cocktail-length black dress with ruffled, bell sleeves.
Williams, who was
almost speechless on her talk show when she received the call from the Hall’s national
chairman Bruce DuMont, is the second African American woman to receive this
honor. The late Yvonne Daniels, affectionately known as “The First Lady of Chicago Radio,” was posthumously
inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1995.
Williams said tearfully, “Thank you [to] everybody who voted. When I found
out I was inducted … for those who are not familiar with who I am. I am just
Wendy from the radio, a girl from Jersey, who had a dream. I was always thought
you were nominated [into the Hall of Fame] when you were dead or irrelevant.
The idea of making it in … I feel like destiny [has been] fulfilled.”
A popular personality for more
than 20 years, Williams began her career on WOL in Washington, D.C. Former host of
“The Wendy Williams Experience” on WBLS in New York, Williams recently
left radio to focus on her television career. Her nationally syndicated talk show,
“The Wendy Williams Show,” airs daily on FOX and nightly on BET. –yvette caslin
