Where would 50 Cent be without his braggadocio rap style? His first buzzworthy song, “How to Rob,” was a farce that depicted several ways to use strong-arm robbery to bring down the biggest names in rap. 50 Cent has also released notable diss records that have targeted Ja Rule, The Game, Rick Ross and Fat Joe, to name a few. However, 50 Cent recently discussed the one song that gave him an uneasy feeling.
“From an artistic standpoint, I pride myself on being who I am,” 50 Cent said while promoting his new cologne, Power, at a Macy’s store near Atlanta. “I have never told an artist what to write. I let them find themselves musically. If there is a point where they want to collaborate, I offer my vision at that point. I don’t put them in one position.
“But there was only one time when I committed to supporting an artist and it made me seem unsure. There was a record that I recorded on Mobb Deep’s album called ‘Pearly Gates.’ Prodigy wrote a verse that reflected how he felt about religion based on him having sickle cell. His sickle cell is so bad that he’s going blind in one eye. He gets up and acts as if nothing happened. So that was the one time when I felt somewhat iffy about a song.”
50 Cent has also found himself at the center of a disagreement between Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z. Days after Beanie Sigel released the Jay-Z diss “Average Cat,” 50 Cent invited Beanie Sigel to his interview with Power 99 in Philadelphia and rumors surfaced about a potential G-Unit and Beanie Sigel union. When asked about the potential signing of Beanie Sigel, 50 Cent gave an evasive response. “It’s a conversation,” he said. “I think all hungry, talented artists are a good fit for G-Unit.”
