Fresh From McDonald’s Flavor Battle, DJ Irie Says Follow Your Passion

altDJ Irie, one of the clebrity DJs in McDonald’s Flavor Battle competiton, shares what it takes to pursue a career as a DJ.

“I definitely encourage
anyone [who] has the passion, the fire within, to get involved in the
music industry or to get involved in deejaying to definitely pursue that,
but the most important thing is that it is a passion. And it’s not
for the wrong reasons, whether it be fame or money or recognition or
whatever, but just for that personal satisfaction of doing  it.

“When I got started, I had my turntables
set up in my bedroom on my dresser and my satisfaction came from leaving
school, doing my homework. getting lots done and then I was on the turntables
for the next four or five hours. Just getting a new scratch; getting a new
mix — that was my satisfaction. I never in a million years dreamt
of making even a dollar at deejaying, much less, being at this point where
I’m part of a program like this and performing all over the world!
That never even crossed my mind.

“Everything else falls into place.
Everything else comes because you’re going to be good at it because
you’re following your passion. Nothing is going to sway you when you’re
following your passion.” –stanley yorker
