Ex-NBA Star Agrees To Plea Deal: Will Serve Time in Prison

alt

Retired NBA player Jayson Williams has agreed to a plea deal that will have him locked up for
almost three years for reckless manslaughter. In 2002, Williams accidentally
shot Costas Christofi, and then tried  to cover it up.

Witnesses testified that the former NBA baller was showing
off the gun in his bedroom and as he began to put the weapon away, it fired a single bullet
that struck Christofi in the chest. They also testified that Williams placed
the gun in Christofi’s arms and demanded that they lie about the shooting.

Trouble continues to follow Williams. In late May, Williams was arrested for punching a man outside a Raleigh, N.C., nightclub. He was a charged with one count of simple assault and later released on
$1,000 bond. His wife, Tanya, also filed for divorce this year claiming that
he was abusive, using drugs and suicidal.

Williams played nine seasons with the NBA for the Philadelphia
76ers and New Jersey Nets and retired in 2000 because of injuries. Since a firearm was used in the slaying of Christofi, Williams must serve at least 18 months in prison. –iesha daniels
