You work closely with individuals who have entered DUI court. How does alcoholism affect families?

Alcoholism impacts the entire family. Family members are first affected when a DUI suspect is arrested and then convicted.  Usually, they lose the ability to drive and that can put hardship on the entire family. The spouse is normally impacted the most because one family member has to pick up the load if the person who was charged with DUI can’t play an active role in their children live. Alcoholism consumes every part of that individual. It’s important that we also treat the family.

How does a person lose money because of a DUI conviction?

When a person is arrested for DUI, it changes their entire life. They are often arrested numerous times for DUI. When they are arrested, they lose their privileges to drive. They have to search other ways to find transportation and that can affect your ability to commute to your job. You have to reduce the fatalities to increase the level of public safety

What’s the first step to beating alcoholism?

You have to get out of denial admit that you have a problem. Some people haven’t reached rock bottom yet. However, it’s unfortunate that something terrible happens before someone realizes that [his or her] life is consumed by alcoholism.
