Ashley “A.J.” Jewell’s autopsy report has been released by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta. Jewell, the ex-fiancé of Kandi Burruss of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” “died as a result of a rare complication of sickle cell trait, brought about by a physical altercation.” The report adds, “since the death resulted at least in part from the actions of another individual, the manner of Mr. Jewell’s death is classified as homicide.”

Jewell died on Oct. 2, 2009, after being involved in a fistfight with Frederick Richardson in the parking lot of the Body Tap nightclub. In addition to sickle cell trait, the autopsy report also noted “signs of early heart disease as a possibility of Jewell’s death.”

Richardson’s attorney, Dennis Scheib, hopes the autopsy’s findings will ultimately lead to the voluntary manslaughter charge against his client being dropped. The outcome of the autopsy did not sit well with the Jewell family however, and they may challenge its findings.

“We will make some determinations over the next 24 hours as to whether or not the family wants to have the body exhumed, and have a second autopsy done,” said the Jewell Family’s spokesman, Rev. Markel Hutchins. –condia
