6 Ways Blacks can Fight Diabetes by Limiting Sugar Intake

alt

Diabetes results when the pancreas loses its natural ability to transport sugar via insulin. The pancreas stops functioning properly
due to high levels of sugar in the bloodstream.  Those elevated sugar levels inhibit the required insulin
production resulting in
type 2 diabetes, which necessitates prescribed
doses of insulin from a doctor to support the malfunctioning pancreas.

Sugar intake in proper amounts
is a major source of energy for the human body. When there is
an overdose of sugar, the body becomes exhausted and depleted of nutrients
from the highs of the sugar rush. If you want to avoid diabetes, begin to notice and identify how much processed sugar — cookies, cakes, muffins, doughnuts, candy, etc. — you consume. Furthermore, take note if you eat large amounts
of carbohydrates such as white bread, wheat bread, cornbread, grits,
pasta, cereal, white rice, as these types of carbohydrates break down
in the body as sugar. Once you have made an honest assessment
of your daily sugar intake, take the necessary steps to detoxify
your bloodstream by avoiding processed white or brown sugars.

The best source
of sugar for our bodies is obtained from eating a variety of fresh fruits.  So an apple a day really can keep the doctor away. Treat most fruits as a meal and consume
seeds in the fruit. Eat the pulp and the seed of berries, grapes,
pomegranates, lemons, oranges, grapefruits, watermelon, etc. The
medicinal properties are in the seeds and skin, so if you prefer you can blend and
drink the entire fruit, seeds, skin and pulp.

Swiss chard is the best vegetable for combatting diabetes. It is a green leafy vegetable with red
veins that is known to aid in insulin generation. The
vegetable is usually sold in health stores and farmers markets. Swiss chard has a bitter taste and can be prepared
by placing in boiling water for one minute. Add garlic, cilantro
and basil for flavor. Also juicing Swiss chard and drinking a few ounces a day can be advantageous to your health and your pancreas, along with bitter melon or bitter squash, which
are found in Oriental markets. –kim yokely
