Ludacris Gives Back: Hip-Hop Mogul Feeding Needy Families for the Holidays

What does one of the most famous men in hip-hop do to keep busy between world tours and platinum albums? Ludacris has been doing — well — everything. Between his new album, his Ludacris Foundation, launching his own signature body spray, and, of course, tweeting, the superstar took some time to share his thoughts on all of the above and more.
What subject matter do you explore on your new album, Battle of the Sexes?
The whole album is just geared to relationship issues. I just feel like most of the time on an album you only have perspective from one side, this album will have both perspectives on most of the songs.

Do you think record labels will be obsolete in the not too distant future?
That’s a great question. It’s definitely moving towards people not needing the label. I think the Internet is that powerful of a tool.

How has social media changed the game?
Social media has changed the game extremely. It has allowed us to self-promote ourselves and not limit ourselves, and I plan on taking full advantage of it.

What would you say to people who feel that hip-hop and video games play a part in young males’ aggression?
I want to talk about the solution. I think young male aggression [existed] way before hip-hop and video games. I feel like I have to target young males as far as letting them know where the responsibility lies and what it means to be a man. If they have a child: how to take of their child and how to be a great father. To make them feel love and understand that they hold their future in their hand.

Your TAG Body Spray Signature Series scent is named ‘Get Yours.’
Why did you choose that moniker?
Being a self-motivated guy when I say ‘get yours,’ it’s about hustle, it’s something that I embody each and every day and I want people to be fresh while they do it.

What’s up next for the Ludacris Foundation?
Ludacris Foundation’s upcoming campaign is about giving needy families food for Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts. —martin pratt
