Kassim The Dream is an incredibly moving film that works on many different levels. The film tells the story of Kassim Ouma, who at the age of 6 was kidnapped and forced to join the National Resistance Army. While in the army, Kassim learned all about the sweet science of boxing. During a fight trip to America, he defects and it’s at that point that the film begins. Constantly haunted by his past, Kassim uses boxing as a form of therapy to move forward. While the film does talk about his various boxing matches, the real meat of the film lies in his struggles to reunite with his family and his ultimate return to Uganda. Kassim’s positive attitude through all his struggles is impressive. It’s almost impossible to watch this film and not be moved. –dark abyss
