Pleasure P’s Grammy nod overshadowed by past conviction

altMarcus “Pleasure P” Cooper may have just experienced the best and worst 24 hours
of his life. The morning after receiving three Grammy
nominations
for his debut hit album, The Introduction of Marcus Cooper,
Cooper’s embarrassing past came back to haunt him.

Reportedly, the former
lead singer for Pretty
Ricky
was arrested at the age of 16 for molesting his niece and nephew at their home in
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. After Cooper’s
niece informed her mother of pain that she was experiencing in her genital
area, the child was taken to the hospital and it was discovered that she had
vaginal tearing consistent with penetration. Charges were filed and Cooper was
sentenced to eight months of rehab and community service after taking a plea
deal. The records of the case were eventually sealed and the victims’ guardians
agreed not to go public with the particulars of the case.

Moments after
the Grammy nominations were announced, the daughter of Cooper’s former lawyer began to air her
grievances with Pleasure P on Twitter. Known as AGoldsteinGirl, Laura Goldstein
vindictively revealed Cooper’s past transgressions by leaking the sealed court
documents of the case on Twitter. Apparently, Laura Goldstein became upset
after Cooper failed to pay her father for representing him
during the case. If the case was legally sealed, attorney Goldstein could be
disbarred for violating attorney-client privilege.

Although Cooper committed an unconscionable crime, will his fans forgive him? –a.r.
