The 23rd day of December was a national holiday for Air Jordan lovers across the nation. Shoe stores prepared for the release of the highly anticipated Air Jordan 11 (Air Jordans XI) Retro shoe by hiring security and additional  staff members to accommodate the crowds.

Although the only major issue at most stores was a lack of supply, a ruckus occurred at Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento, Calif..

According to police nearly, 2,000 customers stood outside theArden Fair Mall for 12 hours for a chance to purchase the Air Jordan Retro for $175 during the midnight sale. Shortly before midnight, a few individuals began to walk to the front of the line, which made several patrons upset. People began pushing each other and eventually attempted to force their way inside. The police were called and mall officials decided to make the shoes available for sale the following day also.

Previously scheduled to be released on Christmas Eve, Nike and Michael Jordan decided to release the Air Jordan 11 Retro a day earlier so that consumers could purchase the shoes on a day when stores would be open later.
