4 Tips for Staying Warm in Frigid Temperatures

This has been one of the coldest winters, especially for the southeast.  Residence need to take precautious and try their best to stay as safe and warm as possible.  Exposure to cold  temperatures can cause life-threatening health conditions, because the body loses heat faster than it is able to produce.
As temperatures continue to drop well below freezing, the risk of hypothermia and frostbite has increased tremendously.  Staying inside is the best thing to do on days such as this but if  you must go outside proceed with extreme caution.  proceed with extreme caution.
#1 Avoid serious conditions such as frostbite and hypothermia, by keeping warm.
#2 Running errands during midday is the best because the temperature is usually the highest.
#3 Wear a hat, hood or scarf, as most heat is lost through the head.
#4  Wear layers along with windproof coats, as they provide better insulation and warmth.
#5 Keep clothing dry by wearing waterproof  outerwear a layer becomes wet, remove it.

Residents need to take precautions in staying as warm as possible to ensure a safe core body temperature. The ideal human body temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Exposure to cold temperatures that zap body heat can cause life-threatening health conditions, such as frost-bite and hypothermia. Signs of hypothermia, the more severe of these conditions, may include loss of motor coordination and consciousness. 

As temperatures continue to drop, the risk of hypothermia and frostbite increase tremendously. Staying indoors is well advised on days such as this, but if you must go outside, proceed with extreme caution.   


Here are some tips for staying warm during this “arctic” blast:

 

1. Run errands during the midday when the temperature is usually the highest.


2. Wear a hat, hood or scarf  to reduce heat loss.

3.  Wear several layers along with windproof coats, as they provide better insulation and warmth.


4. Keep clothing dry by wearing waterproof outerwear. If a layer does become wet, remove it.
